A game for 2+ players played with either a standard 52 card deck plus 2 jokers(for 2-4 players) or 2 standard 52 card deck plus 4 jokers(for 5+ players). The dealer is decided by a high card draw. In a 2 player game each player gets 13 cards, in a 3+ player game each player gets 7 cards.
Goal of the game:
The object of the game is to form melds(sets(example: QQQ) and runs(example: 4s5s6s)). At the end of the game points are awarded for remaining cards in the hands(explained below).
How the game runs:
It runs the same as any other rummy game. When it’s a players turn, he draws a card from either the stock pile or the discard pile and then discards a card at the end of his turn. But there’s a big difference here, a player can draw any card from the discard pile, not just the top one.
If a player chooses to draw a card from somewhere in the middle of the discard pile, he has to take that card and all the cards on top of it. Also, he then has to take the drawn card an form it into meld or add it to a meld that is already on the table.
If someone uses a joker(can be used as any card) to form a meld, another player can take that joker if he replaces it with the card that it is representing(if the joker is in a set, both missing cards must be added to take the joker).
How the game ends:
The game ends either when one player discards his last card or when the stock pile runs out.
All face cards(K, Q, J) are worth 10 points, A and joker are worth 15 points and all other cards are worth their face value.
At the end of the game all players count the value of the cards in their hands. If their deadwood count is more than the total of the cards they have melded, their score is negative. And it’s called rummy 500, because it’s usually played till someone reaches a total score of 500.
