OK, now on to tehnical stuff. I should first show you RummyRoyal software and a little bit on how to use it. When you register an account and open the software you will get this image:

If you are not yet familiar with rummy games, here’s where you can watch a demo or play a real time tutorial against the computer(this is probably the easiest way to learn the rules).

After you are done learning or if you already know how to play, just go under either the Fun mode or Real mode(depending whether you want to play for real money or just for fun). When you are in the mode that suits you, you’ll have an option between Round tourneys, Quick tourneys and Multi table tourneys. If you want to know more about these formats just go under Help>>Tournament Formats in the lobby, it’s all explained there.

Then just find a Gin Rummy table and you are ready to play Gin Rummy online! Here’s what a table will look like once you sit down:

You have your meld area where you put down melds before knocking, your knocking area, where you put down the last card when you want to knock and of course your cards, the deck and everything that goes along with playing rummy. Note that on the bottom right corner of the table you also have two sorting buttons that will automatically sort your cards into either trips or runs if you push them.

So, now on to a few tips that I would have found useful when I started playing…

TIP No.1:
Take your time. Unlike in Kalooki where you have a lot of cards and the meld area to watch all the time, in Gin you are not rushed and have plenty of time to process what’s going on.

TIP No.2:
How to knock? If you are playing Gin Rummy online for the first time, it’s a good idea to have the knocking procedure down, otherwise tip No.1 might go out the window. This especially applies if you miscalculate your deadwood score and then want to return a card back to the deck or something(time can fly if you confuse yourself).

So how do you knock online? Just put down all your melds by selecting ONLY the cards that form ONE meld and then clicking on the meld area(you can only put down one meld at a time!). After all your melds are in the meld area, just select the last card you want to throw away, click on the knock area and you are done.

TIP No.3:
Remember, an A is worth 1 point and it can only form a valid run on the bottom end(A23) and not on the top end(AKQ). Keep that in mind so that you won’t get 20 extra penalty points if your opponent knocks.

TIP No.4:
When you want to add cards to melds that your opponent has put down, be sure to click at the exact end of the meld where you want your card to go. This is just to save you some frustration(and your mouse) due to not knowing what’s wrong when you keep clicking at the middle of a meld that you want to add to.

That’s it, enjoy playing!
